arkster: Excited dragon is excited. (Gremio faceless)
After three hours on the morning ferry, we landed in snow covered Hakodate and had... melon-flavored ice cream. Yubari melon, I remember. They were selling it at the base of the tower, the one that stands just off the corner of Goryokaku Fort.

Goryokaku is Hokkaido's pentagonal fort. I walked around one much like it in, I think, Copenhagen. This one was apparently designed by a European dude too. Still, I bet the one in Copenhagen doesn't have an adorable duckbilled mascot which makes cameo appearances in snow effigy.

One related thing about Hakodate I like: the manhole covers.  )

*You never remember the event, after the first time. You just remember your remembering. Is this true, or just something I read somewhere?

I have lots of things in my home, and fewer places to put them. So here's a short Christmas list with a few things that would really make me happy. :)

- New music. Recommendations, links to thesixtyone or myspace pages, albums, downloads, whatever you got. Doubleplus interested in German rock and anything interesting and new in Mandarin Chinese and, um, Turkish. (More on that to come.) Also, indie Japanese bands would be fab.

Janelle MonĂ¡e.

- Also also, I feel I have missed out on the classic musicals of the last century, and would very much like to catch up on such things. I've got Les Miserables and Rent! on album, but they're clearly not adequate in audio only.

- I really adore geeky gadgets, particularly anachronistic ones. A fountain pen with a USB drive and voice recorder in it? Hell yes, yes please, I would like that one. See also my ThinkGeek wish list. And you know, since I've spent so very much time this year actually typing things into my tiny phone on my tiny phone keyboard, well... an iPad would be nice. c: But a keyboard for the iPhone would really do just as well, if such a thing exists.

- Crafted things, art pieces, especially in the storage / organizer sector of useful possessions. Whimsical things, decorations, especially: ways to hang up the decorative bits of fabric and so forth that I already have. See my Etsy faves for more of that.

- Poetry. Your favorite poem, printed out or written on a postcard or dropped in a comment. Again, recommendations to poets whom I ought pursue.

- Correspondence. The written word. A postcard or a letter, something to put in my file and cherish for years to come.

- I could really use a new Nintendo DS. Mine is a bit over five years old; the touchscreen lags in response and the power switch no longer snaps back when switched. Elite Beat Agents is unplayable. ;; A 3DS pre-order would be lovely. Also, Professor Layton and the Unwound Future: hnngh the newest Layton has clockwork and time travel. Did I really need anything else?

- Answer: yes. Yes I did. Bonus: apparently there are no plans yet to release this Layton/Phoenix Wright crossover in English. So I might get a chance to translate it before an official version comes out.

:D

- PS: A power drill.

- PPS: A working printer.
