Ganked from Feeenix.

Oh, Japan. ♥

Now see, I could explain or at least refer you to explanations of Japanese male impersonators, or kogyaru, or Dragostea Din Tei and its various Japanese ripoffs, or that one Coca-Cola song, and according to Feenix there's some Britney Spears ripoff in there too. But no amount of explanation is going to make a really big difference in the impact of that video. So just watch and marvel. Oh, Japan.

I thought kogyaru were the ones obsessed with fashionable appearance and ganguro were the ones who let themselves get wet and have their exterior shells rust into that hideous orange color.

Both do the fake tans; ganguro are darker and use black and white eyeliner + light lipstick to emphasize it. Ganguro also generally have lighter hair, but the most obvious difference is the eye-killing sparkly things on their nails, faces, in their hair, etc.

Kogyaru do the skin thing not to be dark and different, but to have a 'California girl' tan. In schoolgirl uniform they're known for pinned-up skirts and floppy socks.

I yield to the statement of the experts.

Complete with singalong lyrics. Awesome.

And the best thing is that he's male. XD

[identity profile] arks.livejournal.com 2006-03-02 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I totally put 'female impersonator' and meant 'male'. XD; Isn't he playing both sides of the lovely couple?

I saw that, but just meant that I liked that the best out of the video. X3 I think he's also done some ads for GAP (or was it Uniqlo?) --women's clothing, of course-- which I think is hilarious.

What does "chiwawa" mean?

Hell, if anyone has a translation of any of the Japense parts...

[identity profile] son-maximum.livejournal.com 2006-03-03 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
Chiwawa's not japanese.
It's English.
I dunno if it really has a meaning, though.

[identity profile] arks.livejournal.com 2006-03-03 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
Spanish, dood, Spanish. Careful 'round them katakana!

Conceded :P

[identity profile] arks.livejournal.com 2006-03-03 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
Chihuahua.

No, rly. See the paw-gestures they're all making?

Some guy called DJ BoBo wrote it for a Spanish Coca-Cola commercial. It was re-released and huuugely popular everywhere.

Well, I said it was a "Baby One More Time" ripoff because that's what the video reminded me of. Unfortunately, there is no actual Britney Spears ripoff, AFAIK.

[identity profile] arks.livejournal.com 2006-03-03 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe Britney ripped THEM off.
