You are the fiftieth movie Disney has made.

Why do you assume no-one watching you has ever seen a Disney movie before?

Or for that matter read a fairy tale.

You're not making yourself more accessible; you're just giving the impression you think your audience is full of idiots.

That said: good lights. Good water, good hair. Gender politics... well, for Disney, on the up. Mother/daughter dynamic... interesting. I enjoyed bits and parts. When they shut up all the actors and told the story with sound and graphic, they did very well.

But by god do they need a new lyricist.

What did they do that assumed people had never seen a Disney movie or read a fairy tale? You make it sound like they used a cookie-cutter plot structure, which, well. I mean. Disney movies are for children. Why wouldn't they assume those things of their intended audience?

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Disney will eventually return to an age of scenes like Pink Elephants in Dumbo. Children won't get it or won't care; adults will go wtf. My hopes are probably in vain, however. >:

It was the opening narration that really repelled me, right from the get-go. Folks, we can tell that the queen is sick, you show her nine months pregnant in a darkened room lying down in bed and grimacing with the king holding her hand. You do not need to also narrate that the queen is very sick. And it was this all the way through, and sometimes even without the narration but directly with the dialogue.

Movies for children are still allowed to assume the kids can understand what they're seeing without extra, completely redundant voice-overs. See: Up!

Haha obviously you have more faith in children's programming of this day and age than I do. I thought the point was to assume children were mindless drones and prevent them from understanding anything for as long as humanly possible. I haven't seen Up, though, so maybe I've just missed the decent movies intended for children.

Oh my darling you are missing a masterpiece. Go see Up!, go see it as soon as you can manage. It deserved its Oscar.

And yes, yes I did have a little faith that Disney, now the owners of both Pixar and Marvel, might actually have some professional storytellers on their payroll about now. Maybe. :(

She was way too well socialized for Rapunzel. People who spend their whole life locked in a tower with only one person to talk to should be way more screwed up than she was. I want to see the movie after this one where she has to learn to wear shoes, regain her center of balance, and figure out how to talk to people without resorting to violence.
