Reasons I'm a math major, #6:

I much prefer reading five pages of extremely dense and complicated information which, when parsed, reveal absolute truth via cold hard logic in a good solid language. Particularily over reading a hundred pages which tell me what an ancient philosopher thought about concepts too vague for language to hold in an imperfect translation of a dead language.

It's like playing Phoenix Wright. The effort is all in my head.

As opposed to, say, playing Xenosaga. In which the effort is in figuring out why I care.

...

And then of course there's the eighty pages about how an artist's life is paaaain and his sufferings are almost beyond human imagining, because when he was 17 he embarassed himself in front of the girl he liked and when he was 14 the boy he liked said his name was weird. In German.

I'm not sure if there's a videogame analogy for that.

You don't like Xenosaga?

I just could NOT get into it. But then, I was helplessly in love with Xenogears, and XS was a letdown before I ever started playing.

That said, more simply I just disliked everyone it introduced to me. Also it was visually very unappealing. And the battle system seemed to be an enhancement of all the downsides to Xenogears's.

Yeah.

...which makes it a LOT like Civ as oppsed to Lit! NOW THAT I THINK ABOUT IT.

Not that I was hopelessly in love with Lit, but you know. It was way better than this.

So this is me with the exact same amount of game experience as last we spoke.

Thus.

Clearly them eighty pages of artistic/romantic wank is analogous to Super Smash Bros. YOU find me the parallel, GO! \o/

Well, following the 'effort' line...

My effort in SSB centers around random but unhurried button-mashing as I amusedly watch my dude cavort onscreen, smacking enemies with random shit and getting blown up. My effort in German Lit involves randomly looking up unknown words or not, as I feel like it, while amusedly observing the plot devolve into the inevitable angst, wank, dismemberment, and daddy issues. In both, I get a solid B+ merely for casting about in my own uninformed style, laughing at the subject matter and occasionally wincing as a main character gets smacked into a wall of lava- or has his eyes plucked out by the devil.

(How did I do?)

Koni has to add to that "Sometimes I fall off the world. And die."

I have to add that you are brilliant and yes, you pass the exam. Huzzah for hideous dismemberment on a learning curve?

That analogy would be Xenogears.

Oh c'mon. If we're just going on convoluted backstory full of poorly translated waaaaangst, then obviously German Lit is much more like FF7.

But it's an "artist's life." That immediately made me think of the beginning of Xenogears.

dude but Fei didn't get angst from his art

or from teen romance ISSUES

or from being colorblinded by the devil when he was ten

or from raping a girl who died from the botched abortion

or from his daddy issues- well okay. Okay except not really. Except KINDA. Except no.

I'm pretty sure there was something in the awful second disc about colorblind abortions.

You haven't even played it yet!

YET.

I thought we were fighting ourselves anyway! Id, ego... subego. Look. I played this game 10 or so years ago and the only thing I concretely remember is:

MAN...
OF...
THE...
SEA

My suggestion would've been FF7 on the basis that I am currently replaying it and this game certainly was a lot less ridiculous when I was fourteen.

I mean yeah the analogy doesn't make sense but dang this is a silly game. (Still nostalgic fun, but also very silly. And I never knew how bad the translation really was until now either.)
