Doctor Who season 4 finale

It was better than the last one.
Yes, I choked up a little. At Donna, and her reversion. But that was really, filthily, inherently sexist, in ways that bother me deeply: that everything good and not frivolous about her had been wiped away with all traces of the Doctor in her mind.
So after a whole season of telling her she was special, it turns out, no, she wasn't? She wasn't special at all. It was crazy reformed prophesying-Dalek and his influential magical-powered time-rays. Fuck you, RTD. Way to go against all real indications of her inherent brilliance, and treat her in the writing like she's just a retard without the man.
And speaking of the man. Rose? Uh. What the hell. Here, have a version of me with the same psychological neuroses I had when we first met, almost direct quote, all wrapped up in a nice neat little bow. Enjoy resolving his issues too. The end, that's it for Rose. Bullshit!
Utter bullshit.
And sure, I saw that coming first time they grew the Doctorclone. And what about Rose, huh? You're giving her more work to do? That's your gift? Not the Doctor she fell in love with, not the Doctor who she wants to make happy, no, she'll frolic off to the psychiatric couch with your clone and is just supposed to forget about you and be satisfied?
That's not Rose.
Nice to see Mickey again, I guess...? Though whatever the hell happened with the Preachers, RTD seems to have forgotten about that, too. I'm amazed he remembered everybody's names.
Well done with Torchwood, I suppose. The crossovers, they weren't too bad.
Blech.
So much for Doctor Who.

Date: 2009-01-13 05:59 am (UTC)And have I mentioned the fact that the Doctor turned into a mopey fuckwhit for third season had the added bonus of making me despise Rose? Which is sad really because she was more awesome than I now give her credit for, even if the season finale supported my growing frustration with her character. Seriously, Rose is a survivor and she would have been sad, but she also would have moved on. And agreed, sticking her with the misbegotten Doctor clone was not nice to either one, not to mention it royally screws over Mickey. No wonder he didn't want to stay. *flail*
And because I'm hooked I will keep watching, but I am mostly looking forward to the new Torchwood eps, not the Doctor Who ones (and I'm crossing my fingers they don't screw those over as badly, though I worry about what they will do for this next season what with the dramatic caste change over).

Date: 2009-01-13 07:43 pm (UTC)As for the dimension hopping... I agree that that was totally IC, what bothered me is that she expected the Doctor to know the exact instant she showed up and in many ways expected him not to have "moved on" and found new companions. Again, that is a truly human motivation and feeling, so I'm not saying there is anything inherently wrong with it, just that I found it annoying.

Date: 2009-01-13 06:59 pm (UTC)Which is to say, I'm looking forward to The Big Change that will occur after the 3 specials this year, when Tennant and RTD leave. I just hope it's a big enough change.
(I am also sorely pissed over the Donna reversion, when she was the BEST thing about this season. Meanwhile I hope Mickey will end up on Torchwood.)

Date: 2009-01-13 07:40 pm (UTC)Well, now you've got the Christmas special to see. I did like that one despite some of the silliness.
Also, am I the only one that would love to see the Doctor have another alien companion? Or better yet, 2 companions that are married. That gets rid of all the fangirl rage about everyone fawning over the Doctor while still keeping some romance. Plus I'd personally love to see the Doctor get double-teamed with objections or get stuck in the middle of a spousal squabble every so often trying to get a word in. I think that's be hilarious.
