Well, I don't know what happened yet, obviously, and I won't know 'till I get there, but at the moment it seems a question of whether a) Edgeworth effectively misled Phoenix, leading Phoenix to believe he was dead, or b) Phoenix lied to an eight-year-old. So I see b) having a higher likelihood of being possible, given Phoenix's reasoning skills.

But man, the angst. The pining.

That's really the vibe I'm getting here, is that Phoenix for whatever reason is bitter. Not sad so much as angry, and maybe hurt. Which again is a reason to believe that Edgey didn't fake his death, he just acted like a total dick and left- which again, given those two options, I'm inclined to go with the latter.
