Right near the gazebo where the school serves lunch on foil-paper plates to the kids who buy it, there's an old, rusty, scrappy bit of wide metal pipe sticking straight up out of a concrete slab that the kids use for an outdoor trash can. Periodically one of the groundskeepers sets fire to the contents, and there's ash all around the space.
Today a wild dog was occupying the yard-wide canister, panting heavily and growling whenever too many kids got too close. I set myself up on guard duty to warn the hordes away. Don't bother the mama, kids. There's nothing more dangerous than a mother.
There were definitely more puppies in there with her by the end of the day, when I left half a bucket of clean water nearby, than there were at lunch.
