Berlin Day AWESOME.2
Jun. 9th, 2008 12:41 amOh man oh man oh man
so today I first walked along the East Side Gallery, which is the scrap of The Wall along Muelinstrasse with art layered on graffiti layered on more art, and I use these terms completely interchangeably, and that was a stunning creature. Also somebody scrawled "Love DK ♥" in teal on a bit about eye-level, I took a picture.
And then I went to CIRQUE DU SOLEIL, having bought tickets a couple days ago as a birthday present to myself. Holy god, so worth it. It was more amazing and incredible than I ever thought it would be, and I went in with high hopes (based on fuzzy impressions of the mythos surrounding that fairytale experience of Going To The Circus.) I was blown away. I am still, thinking on it, blown the hell away. It was beyond fantastic, in both senses of the word. The creatures onstage were inhuman in their grace, their strength, their flight- and at the end the masks came off and their humanity was the greatest thing. I came out of it and squinted in the sunlight and wondered to myself what time it was, what day it was, and whether the planet was in the same shape as when I left.
And then I met up with People! My People in Berlin are a friend of Mom's and his ladyfriend, and they took me to a public viewing of THE SOCCER GAME, Germany spanked Poland 2-0 and they gave me running commentary on the players. And then we had lots of GERMAN FOOD, and dang do I talk a lot with a beer in me.
